Tour Highlights
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa)

The Sri Dalada Maligawa is Sri Lanka’s most sacred Buddhist site – a moated, golden-roofed temple complex that has housed the Buddha’s tooth relic since the 4th century CE, its architecture a masterpiece of Kandyan craftsmanship with carved ivory doorways and painted audience halls. Visiting during a morning puja, when drummers perform and the air fills with incense and jasmine, is an experience of genuinely extraordinary atmosphere.

Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens

Spread across 147 acres on the Mahaweli River, Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens is one of the finest botanical collections in Asia – over 4,000 species including a celebrated orchid house, a bamboo garden, and the magnificent Avenue of Royal Palms. Giant fruit bats, free-roaming macaques, and the garden’s wide, shaded lawns make it as much a sensory retreat as a botanical destination.

Spice & Herb Garden

A guided tour of a working Kandy-area spice garden brings Sri Lanka’s ancient spice heritage to vivid, aromatic life – walking through plots of cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and black pepper with a guide who explains their cultivation, history, and traditional uses. The connection between Sri Lanka’s spice trade and its colonial past becomes immediately real when you are holding a freshly peeled stick of true Ceylon cinnamon.

Kandyan Cultural Dance Performance

A Kandyan cultural dance performance is a theatrical celebration of the hill country’s artistic traditions – a programme of costumed dances, fire-walking, acrobatics, and drumming representing the island’s diverse ceremonial and folk performance styles. The elaborate brass-ornamented costumes and the hypnotic rhythms of the Kandyan drum create an atmosphere that is both genuinely entertaining and culturally significant.
